Introducing the AI Pin
After months of waiting, Humane has at last unveiled its debut device: the AI Pin. Priced at $699, this wearable gadget includes a square device and a battery pack that can easily attach to clothing or surfaces using magnets. The AI Pin is scheduled to be shipped in early 2024, with preorders opening on November 16th.
Features and Functionality
Powered by a Snapdragon processor, the AI Pin offers a range of control options including voice control, gestures, and a small built-in projector. Weighing only 34 grams, the device also features a 13-megapixel camera for capturing photos and videos. Unlike other devices, the AI Pin is not always recording or listening for a wake word. Instead, users manually activate the device by tapping and dragging on the touchpad.
AI Mic and Cosmos
The AI Pin connects to AI models through Humane’s software called AI Mic. The device’s operating system, called Cosmos, automatically routes queries to the appropriate tools without requiring users to download and manage multiple apps. This streamlined approach aims to simplify the user experience and eliminate unnecessary interface clutter.
Functionality and Future Potential
While the AI Pin’s primary features include voice-based messaging and calling, email summarization, nutritional information retrieval, and real-time translation, Humane has plans to expand its capabilities. Navigation and shopping capabilities are in the works, and the company intends to provide developers with tools to build their own applications for the device.
Looking Ahead
Humane sees the AI Pin as just the beginning of a larger project. As AI technology continues to advance, the potential for the device to evolve and improve becomes greater. The company hopes that the AI Pin follows a similar trajectory to the smartphone, where improved hardware enhances the user experience and revolutionizes what can be done with the device. While there is still much work to be done, Humane is ready to embark on this journey.
