OpenAIs ChatGPT Service has been fixed after experiencing a major outage.
ChatGPT and API Services Temporarily Inaccessible
OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT service experienced a major outage, leaving its 100 million weekly active users unable to access the platform. The service went down shortly before 9AM ET / 6AM PT and remained inaccessible for more than 90 minutes. OpenAI also reported that its API services were impacted by the outage. During this time, users were greeted with a “ChatGPT is at capacity right now” message.
Service Recovery and Monitoring
OpenAI has implemented a fix to address the issue and is gradually seeing the services recover. The company is closely monitoring the situation to ensure there are no further disruptions. This outage follows a partial outage that occurred the previous night, affecting both ChatGPT and API services for a few hours.
ChatGPT’s Rapid Growth
ChatGPT has been operating smoothly for several months, becoming one of the fastest-growing AI-powered services. Within a year, it has amassed 100 million weekly users and attracted over 2 million developers who utilize OpenAI’s API services.
Announcement of New Features
OpenAI recently held its first developer conference, during which it unveiled GPT-4 Turbo and the ability for users to create customized versions of ChatGPT. These new features will be accessible to paying ChatGPT Plus subscribers and OpenAI enterprise customers, allowing them to develop internal-only versions of ChatGPT for their employees.
Cautionary Note from OpenAI CEO
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged that the usage of new features from the developer conference has exceeded expectations and warned of potential future issues. Altman stated, “There will likely be service instability in the short term due to load.”
